Kappad Beach

Known locally as Kappadkadavu, the Kappad beach of Kerala, India is a beautiful rock studded beach whose name will forever remain etched in history books. This is so, because Kappad beach is the very sight where Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, landed on 27th May 1498, which made him the first European to sail across the Arabian Sea.

Located 16kms from the tourist city of Kozhikode, the pristine Kammad Beach seems to have remained totally impervious to the changes of time. Even today, during your Kappad Beach tour, you will come across the local fisherfolk mending their nets and taking their boats out to sea, which was probably the sight that would have greeted Vasco da Gama also.

The sandy Kammad Beach is marked by a rocky landscape. You can see a single pillar on the beach that carries the inscription- Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498. Also, as you walk along the beachfront, you will see a single large rock jutting out to the sea that has an 800 year old temple situated above it. Witness these historic sights during your Kappad Beach Tours with A Journey to India as you laze around in the tranquil beach and hum to the music of the waves splashing about.
