Hazrat Nizamuddin's Tomb

Hazrat Nizamuddin's Tomb is a mausoleum built in the memory of the great saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya who was the head of the Chisti order of Sufism in Delhi, India. It is situated in the Nizamuddin Village, right in the vicinity of Humayun's Tomb.

Though the original structure of the tomb was destroyed long ago, it was reconstructed by Faridu'n Khan in 1562 and it was repaired and decorated by Firoz Shah Tughlaq, as well as by later rulers over time. If you tour Hazrat Nizamuddin's Tomb now, you will see an ornate square marble structure, with perforated jali screens and architectural friezes. The centre dome of the tomb has lotus engraved in it and is further beautified by black marble inlay work. The main grave is wrapped with a scented chadar or cloth, which is dark green in color. Devotees offer their prayers at the shrine by showering rose petals and lighting incense sticks There is also a provision of a verandah where qawwali singing sessions are held in the evenings after the namaz prayers even today.

The Hazrat Nizamuddin's Tomb becomes a congregation of pilgrims from all over during the festival of Urs, held to commemorate the anniversaries of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia and the renowned poet Amir Khusrau. While on a tour of Hazrat Nizamuddin's Tomb, you can also visit the nearby architectural structures such as Jama'at Khana mosque, tomb of Jahanara, Amir Khusro's Tomb, Kali o Kalan Mosque and the Chini ka Burj.
