The Bahai Temple is made up of marble, cement, dolomite and sand amidst acres of lush lawns. The structure is shaped in the form of a lotus in half bloom. The lotus flower signifies purity and peace, a representation of the Manifestation of God, to the people of India. The 27 petals of the Lotus Temple lie at the confluence of nine pathways and pools reflecting the Bahai tradition that there are but nine ways to reach God. The Temple, in accordance with the Bahai faith welcomes people from all walks of life, whatever their religion be, in its inner sanctum. The inner sanctum is actually an immense prayer hall that is an ideal place for prayers and meditation. You can see all types of people contemplating in pin-drop silence within the prayer hall that offers a soothing escape from the tensions of life. The interior of the Temple is not decorated with anyreligious motifs but rather carry inscriptions from the Holy Scriptures.
