Taj Mahal Location
The Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, in what is now the state of Uttar Pradesh in modern India. The Taj Mahal location is ideal if you consider that Agra was the erstwhile capital of the mighty Mughal Empire and hence Emperor Shah Jahan chose this spot to build an exotic mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
The Taj Mahal is situated on the banks of River Yamuna, enclosed within a formal garden. The location of the Taj Mahal, was carefully planned for the greatest aesthetic impact. A unique aspect of the Taj Mahal is that from whatever angle one looks at this stunning architectural wonder, Taj Mahal proffers the same view from all four sides.
At the center of the charbagh (gardens) there is a lotus pond with a decorative border. The Taj Mahal is located in such a way that it is reflected in its entirety in the still waters of the lotus pool. Also its perfect location enables the Taj Mahal to be clearly seen from the nearby Agra Fort, where Shah Jahan spent the last of his remaining days.
