Taj Mahal History
The history of Taj Mahal is a constant reminder that love is the most powerful, most beautiful emotion that can be ever be experienced by man- an emotion that can enable a man to achieve almost anything. And that's exactly what the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan did when his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal died.
Mumtaz Mahal or Arjumand Bano, which was her real name, was Emperor Shah Jahan's second wife with whom he had 14 children. She accompanied the emperor everywhere and was his soul mate and guiding light. While accompanying her husband to Burhanpur on a military campaign, Mumtaz Mahal breathed her last as she gave birth to their 14th child. But before her death, she secured a promise from Shah Jahan that he would "build a tomb in her honor such as the world had never seen before". And from the ashes of Mumtaz Mahal's tragic death was born the idea of the Taj Mahal.
Mumtaz Mahal's dream came true about 22 years later with the construction of the Taj Mahal- the everlasting monument to love. Finished in 1648, Taj Mahal tells the story of passionate love wrought in living stones. One can say that the history of Taj Mahal is a love story that has endured since time immemorial
